At Bos, we care about you and your company. We specialize in the customization, material selection, and manufacturing of linear shafts, and provide excellent services according to your needs.

The fundamental superiority of our Induction Hardened Shafts stems from the sophisticated process of induction hardening itself. This is a thermochemical treatment that utilizes electromagnetic induction to rapidly heat the surface layer of the shaft to austenitizing temperatures, followed by immediate quenching . The result is a meticulously controlled, deeply hardened surface layer, while the core material retains its original ductile and tough state . This process creates a unique composite material property in a single component: a surface with extreme hardness, often reaching HRC 58-65 , coupled with a core that possesses excellent impact resistance. Unlike through-hardening, induction hardening is a selective process, allowing us to target specific areas of the shaft that are most susceptible to wear, such as bearing journals or sealing surfaces, without compromising the structural integrity of the entire component. This focused approach minimizes distortion and allows for more precise geometrical control.

The unique properties of our Induction Hardened Shafts make them indispensable across a vast spectrum of industries. In the heavy-duty sector of construction and mining, these shafts are the workhorses in excavator cylinders, conveyor systems, and rock crushers, where they resist extreme abrasive wear and shock loads. The agricultural industry relies on their durability for tractor hydraulic systems and harvesting equipment. In automation and precision machinery, our shafts serve as robust linear guides and actuator rods in packaging machines, injection molding equipment, and robotic arms . Furthermore, the process is critical for components in the automotive sector, such as steering columns and drive shafts, and is even investigated for high-performance applications in aerospace, like actuator systems . This wide applicability is supported by our ability to customize Induction Hardened Shafts to meet the specific environmental and operational demands of each application.

The most common materials are high-carbon chromium steel (like SUJ2/52100), which is hardened and chrome-plated for optimal wear resistance. For corrosive environments, stainless steel (such as SUS304 or 440C) is used, offering excellent corrosion resistance though with generally lower hardness than hardened steel.
These are international tolerance grades for shafts. A grade like g6 indicates a sliding fit, perfect for applications requiring precise movement with minimal play. h6 is a precision location fit, offering very tight tolerances for high-accuracy systems. The choice depends on your required balance of freedom of movement and positional accuracy.
